TASTING NOTES
Typical Forreston Syrah character on the nose. Vibrant and complex. Notes of sour cherry, red currant, and even a touch of eucalyptus. It seems like with every sniff the bouquet gains another dimension. Deep red in colour with brighter hues around the edge. Mouthfeel is as mineral as one could expect from rocky soils on top of the ridge. Invigorating natural acidity shines through nicely, leading into the sensation of tannin structure, which is supporting the wine beautifully, while not being too upfront. It offers a very pleasant composition of fruit flavours and savoury elements. Wine that is very approachable now, but it will definitely gain complexity as it ages.
ABOUT
After Cuddly Creek bushfire that in 2020 prevented many of us from making premium wine from vineyards in the surrounding area, we were gifted with a ‘textbook’ vintage of 2021. Arguably the best in the last decade or so. Grapes were picked on 9 th of April and received a short cold soak, followed by spontaneous fermentation in an open top stainless-steel tank. After 2 weeks a portion of the batch was drained directly into seasoned French oak barrels and the rest was kept on extended maceration for another 4 weeks before being pressed off. Natural malolactic fermentation with no racking over the course of 2 years maturation in barrels.
No fining and no filtration. 1176 bottles produced.
